Shag (Josh Agle)
Josh Agle, more commonly known as Shag, is a California-based artist known for his iconic and colorful depictions of retro decadence. Inspired by a modern, mid-century aesthetic, his signature style features wry fantasy playgrounds with clean lines and bold colors. Shag has created popular art for The Walt Disney Company and the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, plus a 100-foot-long mural in the Georgia Aquarium. He has had major exhibitions at galleries in the U.S., Japan, Australia, Europe and South America.
Shag studied graphic design at California State Long Beach, achieving success while in college with illustrations for Forbes, Time and Entertainment Weekly. He also designed record covers for area bands. He first used his pseudonym, Shag (taken from the last two letters of his first name and the first two letters of his last name) after creating a cover for his band, the Swamp Zombies, a punk-folk group that began in 1985 and played until 1997. He currently lives in Orange County with his family in a mid-century home, much like the environments he creates in his paintings.
