Scott Prior is a founding member of a group of painters referred to as the Valley Realists. He paints contemporary Americana subjects, including modest, often quirky houses, flowers in glass vases, family portraits and his own backyard. In his works, simple, familiar objects are transformed through his treatment of light. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst with a major in printmaking, Prior lives and works in Northampton, Mass. He was a resident of the MacDowell Colony from 1974-76 and in 1979-80. Prior has shown extensively in one-person and group shows in the United States and abroad. Currently, his work can be found in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Mass., Brandeis University’s Rose Art Museum in Waltham, Mass. and the New Britain Museum of American Art in New Britain, Conn.
